Human Resource Management Overview

When talking about a human resource management department, one would be talking about the department of an organization where all of the employee relations is based out of. The Human Resource Management Department is where all the recruiting, screening of new employees, hiring and organizational policies are taken care of. Once the new employees are hired, they must also be trained and given a complete orientation of the company, its goals an motto and how things are run within.  These tasks are all handled by the Human Resource Management Department. The human resource department is also responsible for the retention of the current employees. In order to do this, the employees must not only be trained for their current position and responsibilities, they must also have available to them continuing education. All of these tasks, among others will fall under the human resource department.  

In order for the human resource department to be a success, they must abide by several different privacy acts. One of these privacy acts is the HIPPA privacy laws.  These laws are very strict and lay out the regulations of who can obtain information regarding an employee and the steps that are needed in order for this information to be shared. A misconception regarding the Human Resource Department is that they are responsible for the termination of an employee. Though this task does fall under the department description, it is not the department or person who handles such tasks. They do help determine that all policies and procedures are followed regarding the termination though.

The four main principals of the Human Resources Department are; staffing, training, development of the employee and maintaining the employee for the company.  I regards to staffing, the HRD will screen and interview the applicants who are not only qualified for the position, but who have also passed a pre interview questionnaire or interview. They will narrow down the application pool for each department who is hiring. Once the staff has been hired, they will need to be trained as not only an employee of the organization, but also for the department and position they were hired for. As part of the employee’s employment, the human resource department will make sure that each employee has the opportunity to obtain future and continuing education in order to not only stay on top of the current technologies and information available to them, but also in order to help each employee be a more rounded and informative employee. This will not only help the company, it will also help the organization maintain their employees.
