A. Using the PESTEL framework, identify which of the factors are impacting the tourism industry in your country.

The PESTLE framework is a method that can be used by the government of Trinidad and Tobago to assess its tourist industry. It looks specifically at factors which are external to the industry and what will impact on it. The identifying factors that are used in the PESTEL framework forms its acronym. They are Political, Economic, Sociological, Technological, Environmental and Legal. This impact on the industry can be both positive and negative. In this way the government, can prepare strategically for any changes that needs to be made or to simply have the awareness of the external market, to give them a competitive edge over other competitors in the industry.

The use of PESTEL to analyze tourist industry is as follows:-

The political factors that exist in Trinidad and Tobago positively impact its tourism industry. The Government of Trinidad and Tobago is a stable democratically elected government that fosters a harmonious relationship with other nations. The government is responsible for providing, facilitating, enabling and stimulating the development of the tourism industry. It is committed to creating a workable institutional framework that supports and co-ordinates the development of the sector.

There are economic factors that influence the tourist industry in Trinidad and Tobago. The government ensures that there is a stable economic base that can sustain the tourist industry. This economic base will create employment; maintain a stable monetary policy and reduce inflation. This will stimulate travel and tourism and establish linkages between the tourist sector and other sectors of the economy, in particular agriculture, culture and sports.
