Apple’s Asia pacific sales (ex-Japan) grew around 200% last year and accounted for 20% of Apples total revenue. (Dediu, p1-3) With this kind of revenue growth it is clear where Apple expects to continue its growth pattern and maintain its stock price and market dominance. As noted though with this dominance, Apple must be aware of regulatory issues in these foreign markets. Many countries will work to protect its domestic market and companies making it more difficult and complex for foreign firms to operate effectively in these countries. A further question in regard to Apples ability to direct its long-term strategy both domestically and internationally is what the effect of Steve Jobs no longer being with the company will have on Apple. He managed the firm in a very centralized way with all major decisions made by senior management. He was clearly the driving force in regard to the innovation and marketing savvy, and was able to pull Apple out of the deep abyss when it was on the brink of bankruptcy. He came back to the company to provide the energy and product innovation to save it. Whether the firm will be able to maintain its current stature as one of the most successful and valuable company's in the world without Jobs, is the question that only time will answer.
