16. The widowed land is Referring to an untouched frontier. The first settling whites had a dream that they would find a untouched land to reap the benefits of. When found out that there were Indian, if they acknowledge as people then that would mean they are intrusion on native inhabitants which also meant they are in a widowed land and not a virgin land. This is the same way the Zionist Jews rationalized taking over Palestine. It is an injustice to steal land from anyone and the white settlers that did this was about them being morally wrong, it is because they were raised to think the way they think and if any other race then white have something that is beneficial to their economic and political world then it is ok to steal anyone’s land, women and fortune as long as they’re not white it is their right. They think it is their right to bless them with their knowledge, religion and civilized way of life only if they have something that is beneficial to them. The problem is they were brought up by their society to value money and material worldly things because it will give you life and peace in mind and heart.

17. Goodwives are the married women of Puritan men who keep their society in check by spreading rumors to anyone who deviates from puritan’s morals and ethics. The reason why they needed to keep the people in check was because Puritans believed that they were special in god’s eyes and the men use to sometimes deviate from the path by preforming bestiality to fulfill their desires. These actions will make their society not special gods eyes anymore.

19. The proclamation of 1763 was a declaration to separate the whites in the colonies from the Indians west of the Appalachians. The British, according to Zinn made this separation in an attempt to wooing the Indians and solving their problems by not allowing the whites and Indians to interact. But the Indians wanted to settle in the east and the whites wanted to move more west to the supposed untouched land to reap the benefits.

24. Emerson’s statement that says “Mexico will poison us” is very much accurate because of Americas actions in the war with Mexico. The Mexican- American war started in1846 and ended 1848 with the treaty of Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. This war was very sought out for on the American side because of Americas manifest destiny in the south the whites had big cotton farms that they wanted to enlarge so the only way to enlarge is to move east of the Mississippi river because it was all empty frontier land good for harvesting cotton. That land was owned by Mexico and the only way to get hat land is if they take it from them. The only problem is it was morally wrong unless they could have rationalized
